LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS AGO
Back in Ohio at the residency 8550 Ohio digging earth to make clay
and some yellow clay too
The traffic cone would not dry without cracking
Digging the hole for the kiln but reaching groundwater too soon
collecting hay for the fire
some beauty on the spot
filling the kiln
The night of the firing we had the so called blue moon, it was the second full moon of July and it was almost as bright as the sun, even producing ones shadow
Next morning, the cone was broken, but the small sculptures survived
:
:
the beauty of color
the only little sculpture that survived the second firing turned all black and solid, it was made out of the yellow clay
“1, 2, 3 all together now” 2015, 6x6x3 cm
this car is not from 1000 years ago, but for sure from the last century, my Buik from 1990
it brought me safe to Detroit where I stay at the FILTER Detroit house and dig more
in the backyard of Popps emporium
digging
like finding gold

and then, Detroit’s clay is grey

Workshop at Popps packing
and then, loading the kiln
burn
The next workshop was combined with a skill swap. A lot of kids came by and made pinch pots
If the Detroit clay gets hot enough it turns from grey into light pink
and Detroits hay is mint green
and some of the pinch pots survived

Now this is something else, but speaks for itself
