Ich denke in dieser schwierigen Zeit viel an Dich und wie es wohl ist, in dieser Gegenwart ein Kind zu sein. Wir Menschen sind alle individuell, anders und unterschiedlich auch wenn wir viele Gemeinsamkeiten teilen. Wie bei den Blumen, sehen Gänseblümchen auf den 1. Blick all gleich aus, aber wenn man näher hinsieht, bemerkt man kleine Unterschiede. So ist es auch bei uns und das ist gut. Wir leben nun in einer Gegenwart in der die Industrie eine sehr grosse Rolle spielt. Also bei einem Auto müssen alle Teile genau gleich genormt sein, damit man sie zusammmensetzen kann. Menschen sind aber keine Autos. Da wir so sehr inmitten all dieser industriell in der Fabrik und von Maschinen produzierten Gegenständen leben, fangen wir an zu denken, dass auch die menschlichen Organismen und das menschliche Denken, standardisiert und gleichgemacht werden sollen. Das macht uns aber auch Probleme, weil es nicht zu unserer Grundlage passt, die eben nicht standardisiert ist, wir sind ja nicht in der Fabrik gemacht worden, sondern in einem menschlichen Körper. Dieser menschliche Körper und Geist hat einen eigenen Sinn, du hast Eigensinn. Leider ist das in der industriellen Gesellschaft nicht sehr beliebt, weil sie ja auf genormten Produkten beruht, aber ich glaube für unser Leben als Menschen und nicht als ein Produkt wie ein Auto, ist es wichtig, dass wir unterschiedlich und individuell sind, denn so funktioniert das Lebendige. Im Rechnen gibt es diese Regel für alle, zum Beispiel 2 + 2 = 4, das passt zu diesem Gebiet der Mathematik, da gibt es tatsächlich nur diese eine Lösung. Aber wenn du mit Freundinnen über eine Pfütze springst, werdet ihr alle ein bisschen unterschiedlich landen. Im Ballett muss hart trainiert werden, damit die Bewegungen der Tänzerinnen fast gleich aussehen und selbst dann gelingt es nicht ganz exakt, wie bei den Gänseblümchen, wird man auch da bei näherem Hinsehen, kleine Unterschiede in der Haltung und Bewegung der Tänzerinnen sehen. Daher sorge dich nicht, wenn jemand sagen sollte, dass du anders bist, denn wir sind alle anders. Nur manche haben vielleicht ein bisschen Angst davor. Du musst aber keine Angst haben und manchmal hilft es auch, wenn du das einfach für dich weisst, ohne dass die anderen das verstehen. Dann erinnere dich, dass sie vielleicht vergessen haben, dass sie auch anders sind.

Man muss Unternehmer sein. Also knallhart am Aufbau seiner Marke arbeiten und netzwerken, um die richtigen Leute kennenzulernen. Es geht nicht darum, der beste Maler und der kreativste Kopf zu sein. Es ist erschreckend, dass Künstler an den Akademien lernen, wie man den Pinsel hält, aber nicht, wie der Kunstmarkt funktioniert. Ich plädiere seit Jahren für mehr Management in der Kunst.

update on the storm
The hurricane was probably one of the most horrible events of my life. On the Sunday before it hit, we were told it was probably heading our way, but it didn’t seem that it would be any worse than hurricanes we’ve gone through in the past. Jeff works in Ft Lauderdale so he left for work on Sunday. By the time the storm arrived on Wednesday it had become a monster storm. I lost power at 2pm and soon after that the storm became terrifying. We live in the woods with huge oak, cherry and hickory trees and I began to hear the trees falling. The sound of a massive 80 year old tree falling to the ground is terrifying. I hid in the strongest part of our house but I was afraid something would break a window and then I’d have wind inside or that one of three huge trees we have near our house would fall on me. For 4 or 5 hours I thought I was going to die. I called Jeff crying every hour or so and I texted with friends who were giving me storm updates as it passed through the Florida Panhandle. Finally, about 8 pm the storm had passed. I looked out our windows and the damage was overwhelming. Tall trees snapped like toothpicks or they completely uprooted. Large and small branches were everywhere. It looked like a bomb had gone off.

Letter to an artist
ON BASIC INCOME
while surfing on the internet I came upon your project on basic income. I am an artist myself, busy with research on issues of ownership and self organizing. I also published a book last year dealing with citizenship, nation states and indigenous communities. However, I am not a public voice, probably my thinking is to progressive to become one and mostly I don’t care to much, as my main interest lays not in becoming a public figure. But of course that also means a lack of influence on the discourse and that can sometimes feel unpleasant. So to start; to me basic income is the prolonging of our problems. It will dismantle unions for workers rights, rents and costs of living will still keep rising, so that cleaners will need to keep being cleaners but with no minimum wage, as there is no more union to fight for it, people in administration will no longer be responsible following there will no longer be any administration, and even though I’m critical about the state, I see possibilities in employing administration for greater good. The core concept of the basic income dates back to Juliet Rhys Williams who belonged to the conservative party in England and she knew, as we know, the latest since Marx, that capitalism will eat itself up. So at some point it would be necessary to throw money at people to be able to continue to profit (Not that she said that, but that is how it is.) I think that is said enough. I find it disappointing, that seemingly social thinking artists blindly(?) promote something that isn’t thought through. Of course many “important” people and industries promoting basic income, makes it seem reasonable, but I think we need to continue working on a solution considering the unfair distribution of wealth, and that is not done with basic income as a basis, like the means of production (can also be real estate) and who they belong to, is not challenged at all. That has a long tradition, as it just feels better to give alms, than to actually step down the ladder of hierarchy and share your privilege/make privilege become historical. It makes me feel surrounded by hypocrites. I’m disappointed that so much energy goes into something that will not help humankind to live well, as it continues to see money and its catastrophic influence on our planet, as the only possibility for living together. I think things could be different.
